‘Jandamarra’ The Man, The Artist, looks out on a less than perfect world and sees his past, his present and our futures blended and merged into a better way of life that we can all enjoy and prosper in. He possesses the amazing wisdom of an old soul and his special insights come through on so many levels.. His every day living.. His interaction with others.. But a huge amount flows generously into every brush stroke or dot he makes on his canvas as an artist. His origins are with the Yorta Yorta people and their tribal totem is the ‘long necked turtle’ and images of the long-necked turtle are seen floating through behind him in a cosmic stream of dreaming dots which disappear into the same place as his museful gaze.
My thinking for the portrait: I imagined Jandamarra sitting in a special place, maybe a sacred cave with its walls permanently stained from the smoke of ancient tribal fires. The walls glow with soft, warm hues as he ponders some inner thought.
