Hell’s Gate is a very special place echoing with much myth and legend and is of great spiritual significance to the local indigenous people. The area seems to exude a spiritual presence felt by most visitors. My painting tries to capture some of its wilder side, but I still wanted to express the absolute beauty of the area. “Wild and spiritually charged” The late afternoon sun paints colours onto ominous clouds now tinged with orange which form a backdrop to this rugged escarpment. Light stretches its fingers downward toward the turbulent and dangerous waters below and illuminate the grasses there causing them to glow bright green against the cool grey blue rocks of the cliff. Then darkness overshadows them and the cliffs below where the cliff faces begin to close into darkness once again as it has always done thru time in memoriam.  Location was at Noosa National Park in Queensland on Australia's East Coast.
